Past Years: 2004

King of the Mountain: Timothy Sweeney
Timothy Sweeney was top at the ranking 2003 with 12 finished games. In 2004 he hadn`t finished any more games, but noone had been able to beat his score, so he was still King of the Mountain. He had still 64.29 EPs at the end of 2004. He had 5 solos and 5 draws in his last 10 games. Totally, he had 6 solos and 6 draws. That is almost unbeatable. Tim played several games in the World Masters in 2004. But he also started a new game at Dip2000, so he will finish at least one (the game was actually called One) game in 2005.

At 2nd place we find Patrick D`Hyon with 40.16 EPs. He had 2 solos and 7 draws in his last 10 games. Totally, he had 2 solos and 11 draws in 16 games at the site. Patrick climbed from 8th to 2nd place this year. Jeff Grzybowski climbed from 9th to 3rd place. He had 3 solos and 3 draws in his last 10 games. He had finished 23 games at the site at the end of 2004. Guy Fraser-Sampson climbed from 6th to 4th place. Kester Bearne fell from 2nd to 5th place. Ken Marten was at 6th place in 2004. Alec Sharman climbed from 16th to 7th place. Lars Topholm had a very good year as he climbed from 160th to 8th place. Lee Simpson fell from 7th to 9th place. Karl Georg Øhrn stayed at 10th place. Steve Turner fell from 3rd to 14th place, and John Engstrom fell from 4th to 12th place.

Runner of the Year: Patrick D`Hyon
The award is given to the player that gets most points in a year. Tim Sweeney had got all three previous Runner of the Year-awards. He didn`t finish any games in 2004, so this prize was up for grabs. Patrick D`Hyon had the best results of all in 2004. He had for instance 2 solos in the tournament. Totally, he got 27.32 EPs in 2004, so it was well-deserved that he got the title. Jeff Grzybowski had 22.37 EPs in 2004, so he got 2nd place. Lars Topholm had 20.67 EPs and he got 3rd place.

Most Valuable Victory: Patrick D`Hyon
Patrick D`Hyon ran away with all the attention in 2004, since he even got this prize. He got the title for his great victory in the tournament-game called Waddle of Penguins. But it was a close call since Jeff Grzybowski got the same amount of points for his victory in Waddle of Penguins. We had to use the tie-breaker mentioned in the rules. Patrick`s opposition was highest rated at the end of the year, and therefore he got the title. Jeff Grzybowski was unlucky again.

Dip2000 Open Tournament: Brian Frew
In 2004 the second official tournament was played. It was a great success. There were three rounds with 10 boards in each round. 30 games meant that a big amount of the games finished in 2004 were tournament-games. It was very even among the best in the tournament. Patrick D`Hyon came close, but 2 solos and 1 elimination were not enough to win. Jeff Grzybowski and Patrick D`Hyon are the only two players that have managed to be among the top 10 players in both the two tournaments at the site so far. Here are the top 10 players in the tournament, who also got Hall of Fame-points.

1) Brian Frew
2) Anders Grans Kjøstvedt
3) Patrick D`Hyon
4) Paul Preston
5) Nicolas Demers
6) Lars Topholm
7) Wayne Read
8) Jeffrey McDonald
9) Adam Bilders
10) Jeff Grzybowski

Rookie of the Year: Alfred Rodriguez
Several players competed for this title, and we had to use the same tiebreaker as with the title for Most Valuable Victory. Alfred Rodriguez won the game called Darwin, and he achieved 7.00 EPs. He hadn`t finished any more games at the site at the end of 2004. That was a great start for his career at the site, and this title was well-deserved.

Hall of Fame
This year Timothy Sweeney increased his lead over 2nd place from 230 points to 241 points. The reason was that we had some new challengers behind him. Guy Fraser-Sampson moved from 3rd to 2nd place in 2004, while Steve Turner fell from 2nd to 3rd place. Kester Bearne moved from 5th to 4th place, while Ken Marten fell down to 5th place. The big name was Patrick D`Hyon who moved from 28th to 6th place. He got 228 points in 2004, that is 128 more points than Tim Sweeney. Patrick got 98 points for 2nd place in Premier League, 50 points for Runner of the Year, 40 points for 3rd place in the tournament, 20 points for Most Valuable Victory and 20 points for 2 Player of the Month-awards. We must also mention that Jeff Grzybowski moved from 24th to 9th place. He got 126 points in 2004. Patrick D`Hyon and Jeff Grzybowski are currently the hottest challengers for Timothy Sweeney. But it will take several years, or forever, to overtake Timothy Sweeney on the Hall of Fame-rating.

Some statistics for games finished in 2004

117 games finished in 2004. 111 games finished in 2003 and 98 games finished in 2002, so it seems that the growth of the site has slowed down and we have reached a stable amount of activity.

Country-ranking
Below is the ranking for the 7 nations. 100 points is average, that is, a country with 100 points has 1/7-part of all Eagle Points given. 140 means 40 pct. more than average, and 75 means 25 pct. below average.

1) 119.84 Russia
2) 110.50 France
3) 99.86 Germany
4) 97.75 Italy
5) 96.45 England
6) 89.86 Turkey
7) 85.74 Austria

The table for 2004 was surprisingly equal to the overall statistics for all years at the site. 2004 have therefore manifested the trend that Russia and France are strong countries while Austria and Turkey are weak countries to play at Dip2000.

Anarchies
There have been 0.91 dropouts pr. game in 2004. This was the lowest amount of dropouts so far at the site. That is a clear signal that the level of play at the site are getting better and better.

Solos and draws
33 games have ended with a solo (28.2 pct.) while 84 games have ended with a draw (71.8 pct) in 2004. The amount of solos are dropping. The draws in 2004 are distributed like this:

2-way: 23 pct.
3-way: 29 pct.
4-way: 31 pct.
5-way: 17 pct.
6-way: 01 pct.
7-way: No games

Solo-table
The distribution of solos in 2004 is this:

1) 7 Russia
2) 6 France
3) 5 Austria
3) 5 Germany
5) 4 Italy
5) 4 England
7) 2 Turkey

Russia got most solos - as usual.

Eliminations
Here is the elimination-table (not counting elimination after anarchy). The formula is, for each country: Elimination/(eliminations+survivals+draws+solos):

1) 23 pct. England
2) 24 pct. France
3) 26 pct. Germany
4) 27 pct. Turkey
5) 30 pct. Russia
6) 31 pct. Italy
7) 41 pct. Austria

The scores were very close to the scores in 2003.

Players` results overall

12.9 pct. Anarchy
25.2 pct. Elimination
22.5 pct. Survival
35.4 pct. Part of a draw
04.0 pct. Solo
